'Unknown Address' when connecting to Private Hub

Asked by riobravocmd

I currently use DC++ 0.674 as that is the latest version that a private hub I use will allow. However since upgrading to a new Laptop with Vista last month I cannot connect to this hub.
I have confirmed my details with a Hub Op and entered them correctly, however everytime I try to connect I just get a message saying 'Unkown Address'.

I have tried unistalling DC++ but when I reinstall though my settings are still present. Is there a settings file I need to remove somewhere?

Can anyone advise? Thansk in advance.

Because of your version so old I can't give you more advice as the error message would be far more specific in a newer version. 0.674 is several years old and is not supported here long time ago.

...and here's a quote from one of our developers which you may consider...
[quote mikejj]
If the latest official version of DC++ is "illegal" in a hub, then the owners / op's are retards and that hub doesn't deserve to exist. Forget about it. Find a hub which isn't ran by idiots.

Anyway, can you connect to other (public) hubs? Do you have a router? Do you use active mode with UPnP to connect?

I am in Active Mode using an Actiontec DSL Gatway Router with built in Firewall. I have a port open on the Router for DC++ which matches the port I have set in DC++.

I have just tried to download the Public Hub list (http://dchublist.com/hublist.xml.bz2) but get the same message 'Unkown Address'.

eMTee suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #103: “My DC++ is probably blocked by a firewall. How can I unblock?”.

Thanks, I removed from my firewall then restarte DC++. I can now download the public hub list, however whenever I try to connect to the private hub I just keep getting Connection Timeout. Is there something else I might be missing?

Then the hub you want to connect to is out of service or the address or the port is not ok or maybe (if its a DDNS address) your provider blocks the address. If the hub owner says its up and running, try to ask for and connect by the hub's IP address.

Can you help with this problem?
