non static ip address problem T-Mobile

Asked by tiffany

I recently purchased a T-Mobile mobile modem to connect to my laptop,i.ve hooked up DC+ and keep getting messages saying; my client has supplied an invalid ip address, for example it says client sent 149.254. but i have 149.256.I have spoken to T-Mobile and they say as my ip address is not static it will keep changing, now is there a way around this or will i have to just give them back their stuff,i only have 5 days before i can return it so i need to know if their any chance for me,i am in UK

Yes. You should register a dynamic dns name for yourself and use it in the IP field in connection setup.
eMTee suggests this article as a general answer to your question:
FAQ #85: “I've just downloaded DC++ and started to use. I need docs or a step by step guide how to make it work correctly. Where can I find them?”.

You got the link where you can start from. It contains several links including one to the active mode faq (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6518). They contain all the information you need.
I linked that faq because you may even don't need dynamic address and bothering with IP addresses if you choose the appropriate connection method for DC++. Read through the connection parts of that faq, click the provided links it will help you to choose what connection method is the best for you.
If you are sure you need a DDNS provider, I recommend you http://no-ip.com. Its free, widely used and has an easy to use client software.

(The newest version of DC++ will be out in a few days. Its Help will contain an even more extensive Get started guide made for beginners...)
