UPnP IP retrieval

Asked by iv_petrov

Hello,

I'm running the latest version behind a WRT54GL v4.30.12, with UPnP turned on. There are no software firewalls on my machine.

My ISP provides me with two IP addresses. One is on a 192.168.x.x network, and this is what the router gets from the PPPoE server. The other is a dynamic public IP, and that's the one I get from a reverse lookup.

Is it possible to use UPnP to get the actual public IP and not the private IP my router sees?

I can run in active mode if I specify the public IP and do a manual port forwarding, but I'd like to configure the software so it obtains the public IP and opens the ports automatically if possible.

Thank you for your help.

Since your PC is behind a router, and the router is the physical MAC that connects to the rest of the internet, your router gets the public IP, and all the computers behind it have an intranet IP ( 192.168...).
If you portforward the port to your computer, then , looking from outside, its the same like having your pc directly connected. So there is no difference.
If you want your computer to use the public IP address directly, you need to connect it directly to the PPPoE server.
So the answer to your question is no.

It is possible if your router provides a feature called LOCAL LOOPBACK. Activating that would allow you connect to your external address.

Can you help with this problem?
