DC++ 7.05+ woes

Asked by gooachooyumyum

Let me start by saying I've been a fan of DC++ for years now. I've not found a program that even gets close to matching the usefulness of DC++. However, the latest versions of DC++ (since the big GUI change) have had me pulling my hair out. I'll state some of the reasons why:

-The new TAB system:
I CAN'T STAND IT! Whenever I click a hub in the top row, it moves to the bottom. It's like the tabs are "running away" from me. I liked how you could move tabs around in the old version and keep them where you wanted them. The new version drives me nuts when all the hubs change positions every time you click them. I just want them to STAY PUT! Argh!

-The new "Connections" window:
Is it REALLY necessary to show the "chunks" rather than the overall progress of a download? I know there is a "Download" window as well, but it lacks some important information! For example, the Download window does not show the User, HUB, or uploads. I have to go to the connection window for that, which only shows me the "chunks". It's like I now have to switch back and forth between two windows just to see all the information I want. Ugh!

-The "Finished Downloads" window (and uploads):
Now that DC++ displays "chunks" instead of downloads, the "finished downloads" window has become useless. Rather than showing the individual 20-something files that have finished downloading, it will show something like 2,345 items. Good luck finding the file you want in THAT list! Seriously, is it necessary to have EVERY SINGLE chunk in that list? I don't want that! I simply want the individual files like the old version!

These are the biggest issues and I'll just stick to these in this topic for the time being. I keep telling myself that I'm just not used to the changes, but it's been months now, and I STILL don't like them. The changes really are that much worse than the original! If any of these can be changed back to the original via an option or setting, please let me know!

I actually do have version 7.06. None of those problems I listed are fixed. Not sure what you are talking about there, Pietry.

In the connections window you can see from what hub the user is, the progress colored bars are back, view hub /user online/offline status.
0.707 will fix this : the finished downloads will actually have the finished files, search grouping by tth , and more
About the tab system, thats how the general windows control acts, there is another question/bug about it, but there is no solution at the moment...

The downloads tab does not show that kind of information because it's purpose is to see the general progress of a file, while the connection tab shows each connection to each user on what hub etc...

"In the connections window you can see from what hub the user is, the progress colored bars are back, view hub /user online/offline status."

I know this already... I even stated this in my original post. The point is, I have to switch back and forth between connections/downloads to see all the info I want.

"About the tab system, thats how the general windows control acts, there is another question/bug about it, but there is no solution at the moment..."

I don't know any programs in windows that act like this, except for a few crappy programs that I only used once or twice. Which windows version do you use? In XP, the tabs don't move around... They all stay in place. Just right click on desktop, go to properties, and look at all the tabs in various settings there. None of them move. I loved the original DC++ tab system so much more.

"The downloads tab does not show that kind of information because it's purpose is to see the general progress of a file, while the connection tab shows each connection to each user on what hub etc..."

Again, I already know this. And again, I don't like having to flip between both windows just to see all the info I want. The old DC++ had all the information right there in one window. Easy to use.

The tab system works in windows like that as well. I use windows xp, here are some screenshots :
http://img265.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tabs1xc0.jpg << first picture, where you can see the general tab to the bottom ( the clicked one)
http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tabs2ow9.jpg << clicking a tab from above moves the whole tab row to the bottom.

Ok, now I see what tabs you are talking about. That still doesn't change the fact that I despise them. :P

I probably never noticed in windows, because the few windows that have two rows of tabs aren't often clicked around as much as in DC++

I still wish they were like the old DC++. Can there be two options?

gooachooyumyum i really dislike how the tab rows move about. So much so i even posted on the msdn forum asking for advice of how to stop it. 4 months ago. no answer :@

Anyway here is the bug report regarding the tab issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dcplusplus/+bug/226975
I also hope that this is solved sometime soon. Blame M$ for designing their tab rows badly. :(

Can you help with this problem?
