Unable to connect to hubs

Asked by Donster

I can sometimes connect to hubs, but usually not. Every once in a while (I cannot determine when), everything works fine and I can connect, search, and download in active mode. However, usually I cannot even connect to hubs, even in passive mode. I can download hublists fine, though. I can't connect to adc hubs except for one, MP3 Rock Hub, address adc://adcpirre.no-ip.info:443. My connection to this hub is questionable, and I often get kicked for "timeout, disconnects, or no filelist" even though I don't actually do anything in the hub.

I am using a Motorola SBG 900 wireless modem/router. All ports are forwarded properly and tested. I am on a static IP with the dhcp lease correctly configured. My ISP is comcast, who no longer blocks p2p traffic (torrents work fine, and DC++ does work occasionally). I am fairly experience with networking, but this has me completely baffled. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

The messages you get mean that either your internet connection is too laggy and you don't respond fast enough, or the hub has a similar problem ( too many users and too little bandwidth for you perhaps ? ). Try more hubs, and if this happens to all of them then it's your internet connection's fault...

Seriously Doubt that it's a problem with connection speed, as im on a 10mbit line, and it does happen to all hubs regardless of number of users on the hub.

What OS and DC++ version you use? Can anyone else use DC++ normally within your network? Can you download hublists with DC++? What if you try with ADC hubs? (hublist : adchublist.com)

Using Windows XP and latest version of DC++. Hublist loads up fine. Im not sure if anyone else on my network uses DC. it's a university halls network and therefore very extensive so im assuming some people will hav etryed as well but i haven't heard anything.

You get conn. timeout in what connection mode? Have you tried also in passive mode (which is probably the only way in this kind of networks)?

Changing to a direct connection solved the problem and i can now access users filelists in the ADC hubs. I still can't even connect to the normal ones.

What means that the old widely used DC protocol is probably filtered on your network to avoid p2p traffic of this kind. ADC is a relatively new protocol so most of the providers can't throttle it (at the moment)...

The best part is that ADC Secure is encrypted so it can't be shaped. So no ISP can block it.

Can you help with this problem?
