Disabling DC++ Update Notification?

Asked by Standarshy

Hey,

I saw that the new version of DC++ include muti-source downloading which isn't good for my purposes.

I have downgraded bad to 0.699 and plan to stay there until a newer version with an option to disable it is released.

My question is, is there anyway to disable the auto-update notification that happens every time I start up?

I know that there is version .705 is out, but I don't want it, so I have to click "no" every time I start up dc++. It is getting tiresome.

Any help would be appreciated. I was thinking one way to do it might be from adding an entry to the windows host file, but I'm not sure what I would have to put in.

In 0.699 its downloaded from the DC++ homepage at Sourceforge. Beware that if you block it in the hosts file you won't be able to reach the whole homepage...

I don't know about the update notification, but if multi-source downloading was the only reason, then I can help you. You can't disable it, that's true, but you can set segment size to something bigger than anything you will download. That will ensure that anything you download will be treated as one big segment.

Diosyntaxa, I know that I could download the new version and increase the segment size but I would just rather not have the segmented downloading feature.

eMTee or anyone else, do you know of any other way to disable the update notification? If not, could you please let me know what entry I would have to make into the windows host file to disable it.

I will try to keep this in mind and remove the entry the next time I wish to visit the dc++ homepage.

You should know the domain of the homepage as you (hopefully) get your DC++ from there. Its dcplusplus.sourceforge.net.
I hope you understand that as this forum is the official DC++ forum so we can't give you support neither about Windows internals nor about how to hack DC++...
