DC ++ 0.705 setup?

Asked by deanthedream17

I would like to know if you can tell me how to set DC ++ up. I am not at a university just at home, and I find putting in all the correct information quite overwhelming. I do not know what to type into settings and which connection fits me, nor do I know how to get into a hub. I am on a laptop and I have DSL service by means of a wireless router. I hope you can help me.

eMTee suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #85: “I've just downloaded DC++ and started to use. I need docs or a step by step guide how to make it work. Where can I find them?”.

I tried to read it but do not understand it, can't you just tell me what to put. I have DSL but I am connected via a wireless router which is connected to another computer. I have kaspersky firewall, but I do not know wither to hit direct connection, one of the two with the firewall ( I have Vista), or passive. Also what do I type in for the servers, and how do I connect to a host. Pretty much I need directions to get me to the step where I can start searching and downloading things.

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm on that page, find your router and model, browse down to DC++ and just follow the guide :)

Your firewall is not listed on this site, but you might get the idea if to look on some of the other setup's for DC++ and a software firewall.

I took a test to see if the new vista functions would work on my computer and it did I passed the test. It said I can use UPnP, so I tried to set it up I clicked it ,put the ip address in, left the ports blank since I did not know what to put in but it doesn't work. It still does not work, I enabled it on my router, I do not know what else to do. P.S. Why is everyone suggesting me something to read most of these I've either read or they have been unhelpful. Can someone please just give me step by step directions.

We are most likely suggesting more to read since your question are answered before.

But Ok, here we go:
Use Passive, it is simple but not the best option since you can only download from active users.

Active:
Make sure your router is forward for using DC++, check your instructions book for how to, or read the portforwards site.
Open up either 2 ports or 1, make sure it is open for both UDP/TCP if to choose 1, or open one port for TCP and one port for UDP.
Under your settings you need to fill in not only the port numbers you forward but also your WAN IP. You can get your IP from the command prompt by typing => ipconfig /all
Also make sure that the main computer that you have your router connected to are allowing traffic to your other PC where you have DC++ installed.
Remove any previous rules for DC++ in your firewall (with your client closed down), and hopefully all you need to do is to start your client and your firewall will ask you if to allow DC++ to run.

BUT when it comes to Vista I am unsure if you need to make any additional rules for allowing an p2p program to run, as my nick says, I run windows XP ;)

Lightgirl I have an Actiontec router GT701-WG but when I do what the link says I cannot get to the screen where there is a black border on the top and it says Actiontec, it just goes to my Verizon page where I can change things in my account. This step happens when I put in the IP address.
