Can't search on DCHubList, only ADCHubList

Asked by IronHead60

Greetings.

I am a long time DC++ user, but several months ago I ran into an issue where I could not display search results in the DCHubList only the ADCHubList. I can also download from the ADCHubList. I have Firewall with UPnP enabled on my DC++ settings and my router settings. No error messages or anything appear when I log into DC++ and the fact that I can download things makes me believe it's not a router issue. But I'm open to suggestions.

I am using Windows XP SP2 with Windows Firewall turned ON, with exception made to the DC++ program. I've tried turning it off and it didn't help. I've also tried registering in specific hubs with no luck. I've also tried setting my computer as a DMZ (outside of the router) without success. I'm running DC++ 0.699 (stable) and am absolutely confused. Can anyone help? Thank you.

If you mean that you can't get search results using hubs which are LISTED in DCHubList.com then your problem is that you don't have your UDP port correctly forwarded. Check your firewall/router settings to make sure both type of ports (TCP and UDP) are enabled/forwarded.

I'm going to assume by "download from the ADCHubList" that you mean that you can download in hubs that you found through a ADC hub list. (If not, please clarify.) (Likewise in regards to "DCHubList".)

Anyway, it's likely that your ISP is filtering (NMDC) searches, while they don't with searches made in ADC. cologic's post "Defeating traffic shaping with encryption" http://dcpp.wordpress.com/2007/09/19/defeating-traffic-shaping-with-encryption/ can explain the situation regarding filtering in detail.

Try with DC++ 0.704 and see if the problem persists.

(If you feel comfortable running a network packet sniffer, such as Wireshark, you can see if you're actually getting the search results [and not just DC++ that doesn't/can't display them]. Look for stuff with "$SR", as that's the NMDC command for a search result.)

eMTee: Searches in ADC are possibly, so it shouldn't be a problem regarding ports.

(Hm, one can't edit a post in Launchpad? Bah.)

Downloaded the new version of DC++ and everything is working like it used to. A very interesting article about defeating traffic shaping with encryption, btw. Clearly that was the problem. I didn't think it had anything to do with ports either.

(Though I appreciate the attempt, eMTee!)
