If it don't search it is a faulty setup firewall or router most of the times that are causing the problems,
What firewall are you using? Have a look at http://www.dslreports.com/faq/dc/3._Setting_up

Make sure your IP is right,
that your firewall and/or router is set up properly (if you do have a router use this site: http://www.portforward.com./english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm )
and that your not blocked because you are connecting from an university or such.
