Vista Problem

Asked by sgt

DC++ is working without a hitch on my desktop which runs XP Pro. I just installed it on my laptop which runs Vista and it's timing out. The settings are exactly the same as the desktop, and I've included it and the ports in the firewall. What am I missing?

Have moved DC++ to C:\ and updated to 0.704 (from 0.699) ...which I DON'T like becuse it doesn't allow me to cascade...but to no avail. Can only download in 'passive'.

It seems that you have problems setting up active mode. You do not have an external IP for your laptop and you got routed internet access. Read the faq on how to setup active mode . http://www.dslreports.com/faq/dc/

Since both desktop (which is working just fine in active mode) and laptop are going through the same router, are you saying they need different ports?

Shouldn't they both work since they're set up the same way?

You have one router, and 2 PCs connected to this router. When some packages arrive into your router, they must be redirected to one of your PCs. If you use same ports on both PCs for DC++, and you route them to PC1 , its normal that PC2 won't get any packages. You need to setup another ports on your laptop and forward them through your router to your laptop IP ( the local one ).
They can't work both because your router is redirecting packages to just one of them for those ports. Redirecting must be setup for your laptop as well, and yes, on different ports.

The routing activity is only on one computer at a time. They are never downloading at the same time...

Thats not the problem. When just one computer is downloading, if the router is sending packages to wrong IP and port , of course the download its not working. You need to setup the router to work with each pc in particular.

Can you help with this problem?
