unable to open TCP/TLS port

Asked by Par-C

Hye,

Using Vista 32, security features turned off but I get this msg:
unable to open tcp/tls port. file transfer will not work correctly until you change settings or turn off any application that might be using the tcp/tls port.

Has anyone encounterd this problem?

Perhaps some other application is using those ports. Try changing them to a higher random value ( don't go over 32000 though ) and restart DC++ and see if the message appears again.
Also, make sure you have all the rights ( as an user on your pc ) required to run DC++ ( opening ports ).

thanks for the quick answer, but can you be more specific please?
how do I change the ports? how can I check the user rights? (I am the admin of the pc if it helps).

thanks again.

In Connection Settings of DC++'s Settings change to "Firewall with manual port forwarding". and put some port numbers in the TCP \ UDP \ TLS boxes.
These ports will need forwarding in firewall \ router.
You should avoid using numbers below 1024. 65535 is highest allowed number. TCP and TLS must have a different number.

catalin18: your question makes no sense. TCP is Transmission Control Protocol, the transport layer protocol in TCP/IP stack, the TLS is the secured socket layer for securized connections and that IP is just some IP address.

In Connection Settings of DC++'s Settings change to "Firewall with manual port forwarding". and put some port numbers in the TCP \ UDP \ TLS boxes. I tried 1552, 2447, 3316 serially. Then again change to direct connection and try restarting dc++.
and the ip address must match your current ip.
it worked for me.

I've tried changing TCP/TLS adresses, restarting, rebooting, checking my firewall for problems with this(none).
It still won't work while it always has. AARGH!

Can you help with this problem?
