An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

Asked by rumpelstilskin

I get a message, An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host, and then the connection closes. This only happens when I'm connected throught my router (at least it hasn't happened yet on a direct connection), and as it seems right now (haven't done that many test-minutes), it happens more frequently when I'm on a wireless connection than a cable one.

I am connected passively on the incoming connection, and direct under outgoing (otherwise I cannot download).

I haven't changed any settings on the router (forwarding etc. is blank).

Happy for any answer, even if doesn't solve the problem immediately. Maybe you know what the message means?

Thank you!

You are getting this message from a sole hub ? Or from every hub you are connected to ?
Your router/wireless connection may be the problem, maybe you got package loss over it and it makes connections to drop.
Have you got other problems with your connection via router with other programs?
Or this happens only with DC++

This message is the same as the old "Connection reset by server".

Microsoft provide nice info on it; "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. [...] This error may also result if a connection was broken due to keep-alive activity detecting a failure while one or more operations are in progress."

So basically, your router is at fault and is most likely dropping the connection because of keep-alives ("hello, are you still there?!"). (This isn't a problem specific to DC++, even if you're only actively experiencing such.) I'd invest in a better router.

I get this msg frequently from connections with specific users within hubs, even though I can connect to other users in the same hub. Usually it's right after connecting, too, there is no wait time or time-out.

DC for some reason week or so ago has stopped working and gives me "connection forcibly closed by remote host" this happens to ALL hubs, public and existing hubs i have been using for the past year or two.

i have tried opening ports manually
connecting direct to modem
turning off firewall
system restore
uninstall of DC

at this point dont know what else to try.

any ideas?

i am using winxp, win firewall, linksys router - WRT54GS, all equipment has been operational for years dont know why all of a sudden im being cut off from ALL hubs.

If your connections would terminated automatically, then i suppose that there would be the problem into your host provider. You either request to your provider for this or you can change your provider to become free from all the future troubles. Novelaspect is the provider i use since a long time without any trouble and interruption, also provides me the 24*support. So it's better to change the provider than a facing difficulties with your remote hosting services everyday.

I am getting this also, just with a single hub. I don't know why but it's very irritating.

Can you help with this problem?
