Best Setup of DC++ and Windows Priorities

Asked by optionwizz

Hi all.
Can You Advise The Best Advanced Settings of DC++ for the best file transfers in the Queue and Experts Only sections on the later versions of dc++, Perhaps the Best Setup FAQ start. I am on 0.699 on vista Ultimate. with normal ntfs sata II drives.

Vista Ultimate has a nasty problem of hanging on applications as simple as Firefox [NotResponding] Message for a while.[no dc++ running] and it gets worse with dc++ Up.
Equipment is real intel mainboard with quad core, 2.66, 2 gig ram, 1 TB of files on 1.5TB on 2 drives, Vista index off, no vista sp's but up to MS date. avg antivirus.
I have found a utility 'Process Lasso' @ http://www.processlasso.com/ that lets me set operating priorities at 6 levels for each application. I can even set a application to work on a particular processor core.

So far running dc++ 0.699 at the Highest [real time] setting, all ports on 42567 and Firefox 2 or 3 on the High setting and most of vista on normal seems good. Vista firewall is active with webroot spysweeper. No peerguardian.
Putting Firefox Highest and DC++ at High seemed slower. I found that Windows Tracert was deadly slow, average 650 per hop to yahoo from chicago area, 18 hops. closing dc++ only, speeds dropped to 8 average per hop - very nice.

Do you have recommendations on dc++ prioritys, i do see a lot of hashing, and a lot of skipped files due to calc crc not matching file.
I am testing 0.704, kinda waiting for 0.705.

I am trying to turn down the priorites of other apps like Adobe reader, Nero Backup, Even Notepad, Vista graphics junk, google desktop.

Many Thanks
Jim Sherwood

First of all, why are you changing the priority of DC++, or *any* application? It seems... To be the reason your applications are hanging.

Second, I think most settings are set at a sane value, that wouldn't interfere with your computer or your ability to search and download with DC++. It's better to discuss a single feature's default value, rather than the entire feature set of DC++ (which is huge).

I have a similar setup as you, but I never fiddle around with applications' priorities (because the system can take care of that just fine), and I don't see any problem with DC++ 0.704.

(You can always lower the maximum speed of which DC++ should hash files in Experts only -> Max hash speed. I prefer to not have a limit as I want my file to be hashes as soon as possible. Plus, it has little impact on the overall performance of my computer.)

Can you help with this problem?
