microsoft c++ runtime error

Asked by david bockmon

I have been running the new beta version of DC++ v.811 since its release on March 4 2013. It has been running great until two days ago when it started crashing and then just out of the blue tonight I received an error messages that reads:

It says: microsoft visual c++ runtime library
             runtime error!
             program: c:\program files\dc++\dcplusplus.exe
     This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
     Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I am running DC++ on a WINXP pc with service pack 3. I have rebooted the machinge several times only to get the same error message. I have also tried uninstalling the BETA V.811 and rolled back to V.810 but I am receiving the same error message. DC++ loads and connects to my fav hubs and starts downloading files, within a few minutes the error messages returns.

Any help or suggestions with this problem is greatly appreciated and Thanks In Advance.

eMTee suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #337: “How can I create a proper crash report?”.

Similar problem observed by two other people and discussed in the bug report I just linked to this question. An inclusion of your crash log (howto in the linked FAQ) and answers to the questions asked in the linked bug thread can only help us to investigate this issue further.

As it turns out my pc ran an automatic update to the microsoft .net 4 framework. Once I removed the updates and rebooted all is well again and dc++ no longer crashes. Thanks again for the help and I hope the information helps in the future.

John, your post helps a bit as it suggests the problem introduced in either version 0.810 or 0.811. But about the exact cause of the problem we still howling in the dark as we cannot reproduce it. The problem seems to be experienced by many but it probably requires special usage cases like share content, a specific hub to visit, transfer to/from specific clients, etc... to reproduce.

So long as someone who actually having the problem does not offer their time to help us by a direct contact in the dev hub or any other way we probably can't go over this. We only need this volunteer to try out specific versions, special builds of DC++ or to try narrowing down the issue to specific hub(s), etc... nothing special.
