Creating a mirror of user's entire share

Asked by DanielMS

I was wondering, if it would be possible to create a complete copy of a user's share into a specified folder, which would then be shared itself. I don't think there is such a function within the client itself, I think, i would have found it by now, but is there maybe some script or Addon, that could achieve that? Ideal would be the possibility to specify an amount of time for which files should be kept in that folder after they have been removed from the mirrored user's share. I'm pretty sure that problem is too specific for someone to come up with an answer just like that, but i figured it can't hurt to ask.
Have a nice day. DS

Still interested in an answer. Should I be looking on some site for DC networks in general?

Could you pkease rephrase your question then? I am not sure people understand what exactly do you want to do (at least not me).

Sorry, I thought it was clear enough, but I#m technically not a native english speaker ;).
I want to sort of synchronize some user's entire share into a specified folder, which will then be added to my share. A bonus would be the possibility to set a time period for which files will stay in my share after being removed from the other user's share.

As I mentioned before, I'm starting to think this is not possible without modifications or extensions to DC++. If it is possible at all without writing a new client ;)

I hope my problem is made understandable now.

You can download a full snapshot of someone's share at one time, but it's often not tolerated in case of public shares (see http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/webhelp/netiquette.html) or impossible because of the peer's upload speed limitations.

There's no automatic syncronization function but you can set to keep downloaded filelists and can manually get the difference between an old and a current one later.

You can also automatically get your downloads shared by enabling the appropriate setting and by directing the downloads to one of the shared folders.

Finally, there's no automatic removal of files from the share in any way but it's not impossible to implement. It's probably not the goal of DC++ but it's either already implemented on one or more other DC clients or maybe one of the mod authors can be convinced to make it if you pop up the topic in their support forums.

Thanks for the answer, it was really helpful. About this not being wanted or limited by connection: It's a closed hub with every building allowed access to it connected to each other via fiber cable. So speed is definitely not the issue.

Thanks again.
