instructions to remedy inability to search/download don't explain windows 7

Asked by greg m. kane

there are answers to FAQ re inability to search/download which don't appear to apply to windows 7, which is where my problem lies. i need to know the new windows 7 terminology to translate it back into XP. has anyone had this problem with windows 7?

this appears to be a fairly common problem. i have a router and god knows whether that is the problem. microsoft security essentials has been adjusted to exclude dc++ from its purview, but i am lost when it comes to guessing what the FAQ responses mean in the terminology of windows 7. i am set in active mode, i think.

the problem arose when i installed and ran anti-virus programs and then uninstalled them after running them.

any help would be very greatly appreciated. the world must be made safe for literature majors.

i also ran the pnup test, found 2 failures and changed the offending settings to automatic.

could it be firewalls from virus scan programs? and, if so, how do i uninstall these invisible firewalls?
