Multiple Instances of DC++ (I need to run two instances)

Asked by citysoundman

I just upgraded to .799 from .791 and now I cannot any longer run two instances of DC++. Both installations now seem to share the same settings, even though the programs are in their own individual folder. This was not the case for me when I was running .791. The weird thing is I tried downgrading back to .791 and the settings files are still being shared :( What's happening is that when I change the settings in one program, the other installation's settings also get changed.

I need to have two instances ofd DC++ because I am sharing different directories on my drive with different hubs.

Help please!

Easy solution: you have to use the portable version of the program for at least one instance.
Advanced solution: refer to the settings files FAQ in the built-in help.

Thanks for the reply emtee.

I don;t know what the poratble version is that you're referring to. Is this a different version of the app? Can I install it on XP along with DC++ .799 and use them both at the same time? Can you post a link to the download?

Thanks!

When I tried using 2 DC++ clients, both 0.799 & 0.791, with different port numbers. Only one DC++ client is running that is first clicked, while the other is not showing, even though I opened different port numbers. I had no problem running DC++ 0.799 & BCDC++ 0.799a with different port numbers. Yes, you can run 2 DC++ clients that's plain & emulated. This link might be helpful, even though, it's outdated. https://answers.launchpad.net/dcplusplus/+question/63418

You CAN run any instance of the SAME version of DC++ the way I described above. You have to use the portable package or edit the dcppboot.xml file (which is the only file that differs in the two type of download packages) manually to achieve the same result. Guideline linked above, use it.

I actually couldn't find the portable installer...

But the good news is I believe I've figured out how to run two instances of the same version .799. During the installation of the second instance, I did NOT select the option "store settings in the user profile directory". Now it looks like both instances have unique settings files.
