Help - Unable to search or download after switching from Rogers to Bell

Asked by Alex

Worked fine before in active UPnP and now cannot get it to search or download
even with manual setting and Port forwarding. What Am I doing wrong?

The difference I noticed pre and post Rogers is:

My reported External WAN IP adress, both by my D-Link router DIR-825 and/or internet browser
(http://whatismyipaddress.com/) was the same.

Now after having changed to Bell (My D-link router is now pluged into Bell Modem/Router)
and It reports my external IP address as being 192-168-2-11
While over internet is reported as 65.93.92.179.

Whichever of the two I enter into DC++ manual settings It does not work.

I also Setup 3 ports in D-Link port forwarding for DC++ Download, Encryption and Search

Can someone pls walk me through the propper settings?

System: Win7, Norton 360
( FYI had no problems with Norton 360 before, in both UPnP and Manual settings)

Tnx Alex

I can't search nor download. What could be the problem? How can I solve this? https://answers.launchpad.net/dcplusplus/+faq/131

Since you mentioned Window 7 above, are you using the latest version of DC++?

Hi,
Put your 65.x ip in the manual settings box for External \ Wan IP.
Then Tick "don't allow hubs / nat pmp / upnp to override".
Dunno if that will help, but that is how it should be set :)

So you know, the 3 ports you set. Transfer and Encrypted are TCP ports (cannot be the same number). Search is a UDP port (so you can re-use one of the numbers in the other boxes)

Just to test, try disabling the firewall in norton 360, to see if that helps

thanks
Mike

Thanks Mike but it does not work
Here is what I did step by step

1. Turn off Firewall

2. Set Port forwarding in my D-link Router to
        DC++ Transfer - port TPC 49242
        DC++ Encrypt - port TPC 49243
        DC++ Search - port UDP 60210

3. DC++ Manual setting :
       External/WAN ip 67.71.xxx.xxx
       Ticked "don't allow hubs / nat pmp / upnp to override
       Entered Ports as above 49242,49243,60210
       Prefered Port Mapping Interface: Mini UPnP
       Bind Address: Empty

And it does not work. Tried playing arroud with other mapping interfaces as well to no avail.

My understanding is that the Modem provided by Bell has a built in router as well. Hence when I plug my existing D-Link Router into this modem, I access the internet through 2 routers which is why my D-Link router does not see the Bell's external/WAN address as 67.71.xxx.xxx but as 192.168.2.11
Does this make any sense?

Anyways I loved DC++ sice version .2 but unfortunatelly I seldom gat it to work in Direct/UPnP mode and still cannot understand why is it not made more simple and robust. OK I'm not a programmer and this are just my frustrated thoughts
Thanks anyways for trying to help.

Yes this makes sense, you have double routing and ports are not forwarded between the Bell modem and the Dlink router. But if Bell provided a router for you why use the DLink one at all? The Bell modem-router probably supports UPnP so if you connect it directly to your computer and set DC++ to automatically detect connection, it should most probably work well....

Solved
Had to configure Port Forwarding in Bell's Modem/Router as well
so same port numbers in Bell router poin to D-Link router and then again
D-Link's forwarded ports point to DC++
Now it works in manual mode perfect
