unable to search and download

Asked by Mark Tindall

I've been a DC++ user for years. I am now unable to search or download anything though I am connected to my private hubs. I have followed everything in question # 100379 which seemed to be the best answer for my problem but it has not fixed it.

I am using DC++ V0.0770 (r2176). I recently upgraded to a new computer with Windows 7 and am going through Belkin router F7D4302 v.1. I am using Trend antivirus which has DC++ as an exception. All all 8 UPnP test passed. If Windows Firewall is turned off for DC++ Windows Firewall seems to automatically check DC++ and change settings each time I remove them. Home / Work checked when DC ++ is in use. Public checked when DC++ not in use.

Not sure what to do next. I'm that not computer savvy. Explain help in simple English.

DC++ FAQ #131: "I can't search nor download. How can I setup active mode?" https://answers.launchpad.net/dcplusplus/+faq/131

Try upgrading to DC++ 0.781 because the version that you are using is no longer getting any help support.

Back again. Updated to Vs 0.781. Followed everything in the Help guide and answers in the forum except setting up in passive mode. Still no different. Am I stuck with passive mode?

What happens if you try the Automatic connection detection feature? What's in the detection log if it fails to set up active mode?
(Help : http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/webhelp/settings_connection.html )

REPLY:

Using Automatic incoming connection type detection -

[22:22] Connectivity: Determining connection type...
[22:22] Connectivity: Local network with possible NAT detected, trying to
map the ports using UPnP...
....
[22:22] Connectivity: UPnP: Successfully created port mappings (TCP: 65509,
UDP: 63863, TLS: 65510), mapped using the MiniUPnP interface

Using Use UPnP to let DC++ configure my router -

[22:31] UPnP: Successfully created port mappings (TCP: 49316, UDP: 62364,
TLS: 49317), mapped using the MiniUPnP interface

Does anything need to be in the TCP, UDP or TLS boxes? If so how do I find
out what place in them?

I have also recently port forwarded DC++ as advised by an operator on one of
my private hubs but this has not worked either.

Check if you can see the shown ports from outside using canyouseeme.org website. If not that proves this a firewall problem, which you seems to ignored when you read the very first part of the recommended FAQ.

The issue is definitely not answered and has been ongoing for months! I
cannot see the shown ports from outside using canyouseeme.org. My static
port forwarded IP is is supposed to be 192.168.2.150 but instead it shows
60.240.7.233 and I cannot find port 80 or 21 in the check on the site
(recommended) or any of the ports in the previous post. If that proves this
a firewall problem, then HOW does one fix the firewall problem when I
originally had the same settings in the FAQ - allowing DC++ in the Windows
firewall -- and have now disabled the Windows firewall altogether and still
have the same issue. WHERE is something simple to follow? As a professional
educator (K-12 & Adult) and former Training Manager I am completely stumped
with the FAQ which does not give me clear unambiguous directions at all.
WHERE does one go for real help? What EXACTLY do I need to do to solve the
problem?

In desperation after a few months of this same problem I have now disconnected the router and used direct connection to the internet and altered the settings to fit that. Still no fix to the problem. Is there anyone out there that can help?

there have been cases where UPnP reports success when it has in fact failed at finding a proper router that supports it - will be fixed in the next DC++ version. you could try forwarding ports by yourself, by following <http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/webhelp/faq_activemode.html>.

regarding your experience in education and how help pages aren't clear enough, keep in mind that these have been written by programmers for the most part. your advice on how to improve them would be welcome; feel free to connect to the dev hub <adcs://devpublic.adcportal.com:16591> if you have some to share.

Can you help with this problem?
