Error with update-grub command

Asked by Matus

Hello there. So I tried doing some modding to grub theme, but when I tried to update grub, I got this: /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: failed to get canonical path of `/dev/mapper/elementary--vg-root'. Can you please help me?

The (Ubiquity) installer automatically runs update-grub.
It really doesn't make sense to run update-grub in Cubic, because there is no installed system to update.

To achieve what you want, you need to update the grub configuration file, so Ubiquity will pick it up and use it.
However, the grub configuration actually gets overwritten with default values by Ubiquity, so we have to use a "preseed" workaround...

You may also be interested in updating the grub for the Live ISO (not the same as the grub for an installed system).
