I'd really like to do that.
Do you know what the process is (at a high level)?

https://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/packaging-new-software.html
and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages

Remark: Most of the packages that are in Ubuntu are coming via Debian, so that path is better described in the documents than the direct introduction into Ubuntu (which I guess is what you need for Cubic).

Thanks for this information.

I wonder if Debian would be interested in Cubic, since you can not create a custom Debian ISO using Cubic?
This because Canonical "packages" Ubuntu on the ISO differently than what Debian does.

Another question I have is: how quickly can changes be published to the official Ubuntu repos?
Currently, when I make an emergency build, it is published on the Cubic PPA within minutes, which is a benefit for users experiencing an issues.

I'll explore this further. Thanks again for the links.

from Ubuntu's FAQ #3037

Ubuntu is no rolling release. This means that package versions usually are not updated to higher versions than the one initially provided with a certain Ubuntu release.

Newer package versions are provided only with newer Ubuntu releases.

There are exceptions to this rule, e.g. a limited list of packages like kernel, timezone information, Firefox, and in case that severe weaknesses and/or bugs in a package justify an upgrade.

Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for details about the processes around upgrading packages in already-published Ubuntu releases or https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports for the process of backporting the newest version that is available in the development version of Ubuntu to an older release.

---------

This means that there is no intention to allow "an emergency build within minutes".

Maybe the PPA is the better solution for you.

Hi;

"I wonder if Debian would be interested in Cubic, since you can not create a custom Debian ISO using Cubic?"

it would be great if you could adapt Cubic for Debian. For the community, and the Cubic project is already of interest to companies as well.

I agree with Manfred Hampl for PPA if the goal is to provide a new version or features very quickly. But I think that the product is stable and solid and users can eventually wait for the validation workflow of the Ubuntu or Debian packages.

If I can help for a feedback and documentation it is with pleasure

This project is really awesome !

Johnny, Manfred,

Thank you both for the information.

Johnny,

Thanks for the nice comments!

Regarding adapting cubic for Debian, I had looked into this. But I did not see a *.squashfs file like Ubuntu has. This is critical, because it contains the OS that is customized in Cubic's virtual environment. I'll look again; if there is an equivalent file, it may be possible.

I think we can pass the subject as resolved.
