customized linux live login

Asked by ranamohammadi on 2019-05-01

I've done it completely through twice, very carefully each time, and I have the same problem resulting. When I boot my custom ISO , it doesn't load as if it's live, but asks me to log in. I have to press F1 to log in, then a text field appears asking for username and password. I've not set any username or password and would prefer it to load the desktop on boot.

I'm quite certain that I followed the directions exactly, and the things I modified in customizing was nothing more than installing a few tools and creating a custom menu in the Cinnamon-menu settings. I don't think those changes should cause the problem I'm facing.

Any thoughts on how to correct this?

when I boot my iSO , I get following error in load modules:

adduser : the UID 999 is already in use
usermod:user mint does not exist
install:invalid user mint

while I couldn't create any user.
I used mint19.1-cinnamon

I think I read somewhere that the installer doesn't work if there are custom users below 1000. (I'll see if I can find the link).

Are you trying to create a user during customization, so you can log into the Live ISO with that user, instead of the default "Live" user id?

If you must have a new default user created on the customized ISO, prior to installation, does the user have to have id 999, or can you assign a different ID?

Also, see comments #3 and #4 in the following Answer for a couple of approaches to "pre"-creating a user...
