Problem with Jessie + Mate + Compiz

Asked by balia

On an older computer, I have compiz+3d acceleration running on a Ubuntu 12.04.
(Mate was installed to replace unity after upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04).

On the same computer (multiboot+different partition), I have installed Debian Jessie+Mate+Compiz.
I downloaded compiz from compiz.org (the last version is 0.9.12.2).
I compiled and installed compiz following the instructions on:
http://wiki.compiz.org/C%2B%2BCompiling
I rebooted

Mate+Compiz works as long as I do not enable OpenGL.
In my initial setup I only selected the following plugins: core; ccp, composite, resize, matecompat, move, maximumize.
But when OpenGL is enabled, I immediately get a "grey" screen.
There is nothing in ~/.xsession-errors to explain the grey screen.

To understand why I am getting a grey screen, I want to compare the compiz configuration of both setup.
In Ubuntu, the compiz configuration is stored in gconf>apps>config and is quite extensive.
I can export it with gconftool.
In Debian, there is an entry in dconf>org>compiz, but it contains very little.
Similarly, the folder ~/.config/compiz-1 contains very little.

What is the best way to export the full compiz config?
Any idea on what may cause the "grey" screen issue and to troubleshoot it?
