Where does the music come from?

There does not seem to be any explanation in the documentation (documentation?) of where the music is coming from. Is it all copyright-legitimate, or are these people's private copies being shared, or is the system piggybacking on advert-based streaming services and bypassing the adverts.

It is a bit of a puzzler, and I don't want to feel guilty if I enjoy the music.
