length of command limited?

Asked by Julian Rombach

Hi.

Question: Is there a limit to the possible length of a command? Maybe it is defined by the maximum length of a line in the file .clicompanion.

Thanks

I have not reached a maximum command length but would be interested to know if anyone determines what that might be.

Since CLI companion uses your regular terminal with all standard commands included, with the use of xargs i say there is no limit.

Wow. If this is true then this program is a mighty and diabolic tool. Does anyone know some free code which writes a whole shell script of some length into one single command by putting in some &&s and ;s and some Brackets and replacing linebreak+'}' by '; }' ? If anyone does then you should deliver the program together with this code and say: "Hey, you can take any shellscript you like and transmute it into one single command, if you like to use the input capacities CLI Command instead of other templates like zenity."
