NetPollster resource ID

Asked by Matt Symonds

NetPollster is no longer returning a resource ID of the VM ID, and is instead returning nova-instance-<instance-id>-<mac> is this intended?

I know this changed some time between Feb 11, 2013 and Mar 05, 2013 but I am unable to find the specific change or any information about the change being intended.

As the resource_id is in the metadata I am still able to get the information out of ceilometer. I would still like to know if this is intended.

Yes, this is intended. We need a unique resource id for each interface in order to compute their network usage separately. It looks like the change was made as part of the move to add hypervisor abstraction in 40a3874c3845ccb2756f92f48be6baae820ee90d.
