Using Super in Launcher mode (MATE Panel) causes panel to appear in center of screen

I don't know if this is a bug or a wish or a misunderstanding. I've put a launcher into the panel (I am not sure if I should use gnome-panel as I am trying to avoid redundancies with dependencies) and it works when I click it. After some experimentation, when changing Cardapio's keyboard shortcut to Super_L, it centers-- it's aligned with the panel, but dead center regardless of mouse location. I am not sure if this is a bug, or I have to configure a horizontal setting?

I really don't see this as a bug, but an idiosyncrasy since some people want an applet which places their menu in different places. But how to get it to work as a launcher in another panel with a keystroke seems solvable with a locked position. Any ideas on how that is possible?
