Cairo-Dock button?

Asked by lockheed

I want to use Cardapio with Cairo Dock but all I have now is just 'cardapio' command and if I bind this to a launcher, it will show 'MENU' mini-window. Instead, I want to see the full menu itself after clicking the launcher/applet, just like in windows, or like in CairoDock using gnome standard menu.

Hi Lockeed,

You shouldn't run "cardapio" by itself, because that's meant for something related to starting the Gnome-Panel applet (some weird Gnome legacy code, which has to be executed without arguments). Instead, use either "cardapio show" or "cardapio hidden" (depending on whether you want Cardapio to appear immediately or just sit in the background waiting for you to press the hotkey Windows+Space).

See: https://answers.launchpad.net/cardapio/+faq/1147

Now, regarding better Cairo-Dock integration. There is actually a Cairo-Dock applet developed by a third party, which you could use. However, due to some recent changes in Cardapio, this applet broke. So I contacted the developer of the Cairo-Dock applet last week and we have come up with a fix. I don't know when the fixed version will be available publicly, though. I will update this answer when it is.

When the modified applet is ready, this is how you'll it:

Let me know if this helps.

I have since installed Cairo-Dock 2.3 with Cardapio applet support but run into subsequent problem - nothing happens when I click it!

And when I try to run cardapio in terminal to examine its log, nothing happens either and after 1 minute I am returned to $.

Hi lockheed. That's because of what I was talking about in my reply above. I quote it here:

"due to some recent changes in Cardapio, this applet broke. So I contacted the developer of the Cairo-Dock applet last week and we have come up with a fix. I don't know when the fixed version will be available publicly, though"

In the meantime, while the fix is not made public, you should just use a launcher instead of an applet. This is what you were trying to do before.

Cheers.

Can you help with this problem?
