How do I pin an item to the menu?

I must be overlooking something... How do I add items to the pinned section?

Currently, I think that can only be done by right clicking on the applet → Edit Menus. Then find the application and drag it to the left on »Applications«, drop it when a plus sign appears at the mouse cursor. It is now still in the subfolder but also directly in the main menu (like the Software Center).

A faster and easier way for that would be great. With right-click and »Pin item« / »Unpin item«. Or even drag and drop. :)
