can't sign in...every time I click anything I get sent back to login page and stay there forever

Asked by Ykcir Reklaw

On Launchpad every time I sign in....everythings okay IF I stay on the first page. If I click on anything or try a search I am returned to login screen forever. ..and ever. If this can't be resolved would someone please give me a little info on why there is no sound volume control in Ubuntu 11.04? I have updated alsa utils and still no luck. I used the March 9 4gig dvd to install 11.04 and used the March 19 4gig dvd to upgrade Natty. I am using amd64 athlon 11 x 2 235e nVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Ykcir Reklaw, this sounds like it's probably related to cookies in your browser. Does it work if you try a different browser (with a default config or with cookies fully enabled)?

How did you stay logged in long enough to ask this question?

If changing your browser or cookie settings does not help, could you describe the exact steps you are taking and their result?

I have not done anything different other than update/upgrade Natty from when I last could login with no problems. The faq link at the bottom of the page was one of the only things I could use on Launchpad without being sent back to the eternal login screen. And I had this problem with logging on only with Launchpad...which I hope is not allowing one of those stupid internet games to block/ban users like Ubuntu Forums. Well I'm gonna see if this email will be sent ....

This could be caused by many different things, so I'd like to narrow it down with some simple tests.

To help determine if this is an issue on the server or on your computer, could you try logging in from a different computer? Or, if you don't have access to a different computer, a different browser would work too. If you normally use Firefox, try logging in with Chrome or Midori. They can be installed via the package manager, and the package names are 'chromium-browser' and 'midori'.

I did a re-install of Natty using the March 26 4gig dvd and am not having this problem with logins with Launchpad right now. I did not do this for problems logging in but to get back volume control in Natty when the update manager suggested I do a partial upgrade......now I am wondering if I do anymore upgrades will I lose sound again or the ability to login to Launchpad. I guess this could go as problem solved except I won't know the root of what caused it.

I'm glad it's working now. Let us know if the issue comes back.
