Asked by Alan Bell

I have logged in to https://login.ubuntu.com I don't see where it tells me my new openID URL like it does on the launchpad profile page.

At this time, we don't enable standard openid requests. This feature will be enabled once the existing known sites are switched over. When that happens, your OpenID will be displayed.

Aren't the whole StackExchange (including AskUbuntu) reason enough to make Ubuntu SSO OpenId an option?

AskUbuntu already works with Launchpad accounts. For other sites, I'm sure an announcement will be made when Ubuntu SSO supports standard openID.

Actually, we turned the Ubuntu SSO OpenID functionality on some time ago. You can use "https://login.ubuntu.com/" as your OpenID on any site which supports OpenID2.x and https URLs - not all do but most mainstream sites and common apps (eg: Wordpress, Drupal, etc) should. What Ubuntu SSO is missing right now is the ability to see your personal OpenID in the UI, as requested in the original question. This is because your personal ID right now contains a string of random characters and you can't change it for something more friendly. We do intend to fix this in the future but it's relatively complex (as our existing usernames are managed by Launchpad, not every SSO user has a full Launchpad account and, therefore, a username) so we haven't yet had time for it amongst our other priorities.
