How delete I Cairo-dock without problems (Precise)

Asked by Eglefino

I will delete the whole Cairo-dock (Core & plugins) from my computer. I ask this, because I have read on the www a lot of written problems which I even plan to do.
Before I used the Gnome fallback + layer on Unity Classic and I could easy find allmy installed programs in games which I had installed from the Softwarecenter/Synapsic.

I'm bedridden and disabled and easy installing Cairo-Dock without any help is for me not practical. Working with Cairo-Dock wasn't easy for me, all my before installed programmas were away and to make on every program/map a new strarter/shortlink..... (incl. a path) Cairo-starters is for me working in Windows, not knowing where all is installed to get a path.

So I want back to Gnome, without missing any data or program. I tried myself to find a solution (deleting programs from the panel) but I could not use the same procedure with every X what is on the pannel.

I tried Cairo-dock because I have a nice ATI Graphical Card with 3D & openGL3.2, so with that there were no problems, it's because of my health/condition/syndromes that I cannot go further. Cairo-dock ask in general for a lot of changes and that costs much energy and that I havenn't.

Not sure to understand, but you can easily add softwares into the dock:
simply drag and drop them from the Applications menu into the dock.
(the Applications menu is available in the dock, but you can also drag
software from the Unity shell).

As to uninstall a program, just use your software manager (just don't
uninstall libcairo).

I'm happy you or someone gave an reaction.

I've tried to delete Cairo-Dock first on the same way as installed it (Software-centre), but it wasn't away.
I have not tell that I miss the layer on the background from the Gnome fallback (Unity), so it's very difficulty to click or start a program what I can't see as I wanted. The backgroundphoto (1920 x1080) is my background and I have tried a lot of options* with my Samsung graphic screen and ATI graphic card (*= 32-year of Windows software/hardware experience helped me some times).

I deleted every icon on the dock by hand but at the end I got a very short dock and a jumping 'pinguino' and I could not start anything. So today I got it a try to start again with Cairo-Dock (from the short dock), because there was for me no other solution. I tried even to install the Gnome-manger but I could not find any solution and to start the live-CD, but it will not start (how it work in the terminal I don't know).

It's strange that I can work with the dock (it's deleted in the software centre), so I'm making this dock longer and I can use my G-edit, Firefox and some other (after a restart). Also Compiz came up (like a pop-up) from behind my background.... Maybe if someone can help me to get that layer on his place... (get a restart) and maybe Cairo can delete or work better either :-). There is one strange small screen with a searchmachine in it, which I cannot get from his place; with right click I have one solutions (in English) 'reload', normaly my text is Dutch. That's the only strange thing what I can see, without the layer of course. Hope you can give me a solution.

Maybe I've started/tried Cairo-dock to early in my newbie Ubuntu-period. I use Ubuntu (without another OS) since a year. I said goodbey to Microsoft and shall never return, despite this problems I'm a happy Ubuntu user, it cannot be worser as with Windows!

I'm not sure to see the problem, but here is whay you can do if you want to
start with a good base:

delete all cairo-dock config:
  rm -rf ~/.config/cairo-dock
and then restart the dock.

you wil get the default theme, with few launchers and the Applications
Menu. From this one, you can add programs in the dock. You can also remove
the one you don't need by dragging them out of the dock.

You can also select a theme from the theme manager, to start with something
that suits your needs better.
