How does caffeine indicator work?

Hi,

What is caffeine indicator? how does it work?
 Clicking on "about" on the icon says I can control manually the idle state of my computer, but how? I could not find any manual following the website.
Google tells me I can open some settings or set a timer, is that true? how?
