Does Caffeine inhibit notifications on purpose?

Asked by Jonathan Meek

I recently found out that the reason my notifications weren't displaying was because I kept caffeine on all the time to prevent Empathy from idling. Is there anyway that the notifications can be kept on while caffeine is active?

Sadly, no. This is by design of the underlying frameworks that are used. It's an unwelcome side effect for many, but whenever the screensaver is inhibited all non-critical notifications are also inhibited. I can't seem to find the more comprehensive writeup I once read on it, but here's something: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#“Do not disturb” mode
