Could Bazaar get a plugin/package manager similar to RubyGems, fink, or apt?

Asked by Zearin

One of the things I like about Bazaar is that the design has always shown concern for usability and a human-friendly interface.

I think something that would really help Bazaar become even more friendly is some kind of package/plugin manager, similar to RubyGems, fink, or apt. The ability to find plugins and install, update, and manage them from the command line—rather than jumping back and forth between a terminal and many browser tabs—would be a huge time-saver, and generally make using Bazaar (and its plugins) a much more pleasant experience.

I don't have the necessary skills to contribute code-wise, but I thought I'd at least present the idea and see if anyone else likes it enough to get something started. If there is anything else I might be able to help with that would promote getting a project like this started, let me know!

Thoughts?

Hi,

Yes, we would like to do this. There is some work towards it, eg by letting plugins declare their versions, but I don't think it's anyone's top priority at the moment. You could have a look through the list archive (http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.bazaar-ng.general or just google it) and if you have new things to add post to the list, or maybe look for a spec on the wiki.

Can you help with this problem?
