Feedback on "Bazaar in Five Minutes"

Asked by James

Hello Bazaar documentation folks!

At <http://doc.bazaar.canonical.com/beta/downloads/pdf-en/bzr-en-tutorial-mini.pdf>, the code examples that are given are both incomplete and inconsistent.

Hello Bazaar folks!

I've just started with Bazaar, and I hope my feedback will be helpful to you. I have two issues to raise:

1) Irregularities in the documentation
2) A problem with connecting with Launchpad

I've used styled text to make the issues clear, so I've posted a document here with my complete message:

http://www.lexogram.com/csv/BazaarIn5Mins_feedback.rtf

Thanks in advance for your feedback,

James

Thanks very much, James, for taking the time to go through this and give some feedback.

Do you think, at least if we do get your ssh setup working, you could put back a proposal to change the earlier parts of the document, using the instructions in <http://wiki.bazaar.canonical.com/BzrGivingBack>?

I'll have a go at better explaining how to get going with Launchpad.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I have solved the ssh issue now. When the problem occurred, I was using the terminal as "su admin", but trying to push files from my "james" account. When I redid all the steps in the tutorial as "james", the bzr push lp:~james.newton/+junk/sample command worked fine.

As you suggested, I've got myself a local copy of the development mainline and created my own branch. As I work through the documentation as a newbie to open-source development and to command-line interfaces, I'll edit my local copy and push it to Launchpad so that others like me can spend less time scratching their heads.

I was recently contracted by Adobe to rewrite the 3D documentation for Shockwave Director. Now I'm hoping that my input to the Bazaar documentation will be useful to the Canonical community, too.

Our team has only just adopted Bazaar and joined Launchpad in order to work on a project called Lexogram:
<https://launchpad.net/~lexogram>
We are an international team working on a set of applications to help communication flow between people of different languages and cultures.

Here's to a happy and rewarding future together!

James
