Cannot exec 'byobu-config': No such file or directory

Asked by Enzo Mancuso

I use Archlinux x86_64. I downloaded the latest version (2.32) of byobu and extracted it into my home.
I downloaded byobu from this link: http://people.ubuntu.com/~kirkland/byobu-export.tar.gz
Executing screen byou starts, but if I press the F9 key the application says:
"Cannot exec 'byobu-config': No such file or directory"

Maybe it's an issue of this release, because with previous releases I didn't have problems.

Do you have /usr/bin/byobu-config installed?

I never had byobu installed. Where can I find a guide to install byobu on archlinux?
The aur pkgbuild is really old.

Okay, I pinged a developer I know for Arch. He's going to try and pick up and sponsor the package into the Arch User archive.

Hopefully that will help get it sorted out.

In the mean time, you'd need to get the byobu-config binary into your path.

Would there be any way to get the byobu-config binary and, more importantly, the function keys, to work on a standard screen install after a byobu-export?

Recently I added byobu-config to the byobu-export tarball.

New error:
Utmp slot not found -> not removed

Sucks to not have root. :(

Hmm, interesting.

Do you have a /var/run/screen/S-$USER directory?

Nope.

I've been working on this for a while now, on a shared server with CentOS 4.8. Turns out it also gives the UTMP error when running normal screen and closing a window there. But really, it's more of an annoyance than a problem.

My main problem, though, was determined when running byobu-config without screen running: python did not have snack installed. So I installed python in my home directory, installed snack, and now byobu-config works well (sometimes...I have to hit f9 a few times to get it to work), except for help, colors, keybindings, and other things that rely on byobu itself being installed.

Which reminds me: it turns out that at least F6 through F12 *do* work in gnome-terminal. F2, F3, and F4 do not work in gnome-terminal, but do work when I'm at a TTY. I guess it has to do with the different terminal emulation used by gnome-terminal vs. tty?

Oh, and again, that's all just for running the exported byobu configuration on CentOS screen, when ssh'd into CentOS from gnome-terminal on my local Ubuntu machine, vs. using ctrl+alt+f2 TTY and ssh'ing from there.

Everything, including the F-keys, work perfectly in my local Ubuntu install.

Can you help with this problem?
