Function keys 2-4 give error: "This window is no longer logged in"

Asked by Nick

System: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS

Subsequent pressing of f2-f4 gives "This window is already logged out". I'm not sure what changed, I had been using byobu for months. I've tried deleting ~/.byobu and completely reinstalling byobu. The only change I can think of is that I just started logging in with ssh keys rather than a regular password.

Thanks

[Update]
Finally figured it out, on the mac I had the terminal preference 'Declare Terminal as:' set to something other than 'xterm-color'. This caused the problem mentioned above. I still can't get option+left/right arrow to work for skipping words. Thanks for your response (sorry about the misleading information too).

Are you encrypting your home directory? If so, it may not be
automatically mounted, if you're using public key authentication.

Can you help with this problem?
