byobu for unix/osx?

Asked by John Doe

Is there gonna be any full support for unix systems like freebsd or osx? this tool is excellent, and I tried to compile it under my OS X system, but unfortunately not all functions are working as it should...

Any info about full support for other systems except linux?

Hi there!

I would *love* for byobu to work well under OSX or other UNIX systems. I have migrated the build system to automake/autoconf/make for just this reason.

Unfortunately, I don't have any access to OSX or other UNIX systems, so we're all going to need to rely on an interested byobu developer driving by and helping out with that. Stay tuned!

Thanks,
Dustin

I'm using linux too (ubuntu) and that is how I found this extrodonary, but at home I'm using OS X so I do hope that someone with objective cocoa programming skills will appear soon, cause byoby is damn good program and I haven't found (alternative) anything like for mac...

I've been using byobu with OSX 10.4.11 PPC for a while and find it quite useful.

I recently upgraded to byobu 3.28 and that was painless.

Here's a few other thoughts that might be helpful ..

My main issue is that the F keys don't work "as is" but I get around that by using the alternate key sequences (Ctrl-a+1, etc.) that you see in ~byobu/keybindings/screen-escape-keys. Also, I sometimes run with a lot of xterms going when byobu will not work due to "fork: resource temporarily unavailable" followed by "Sorry, could not find a PTY."

I haven't tried byobu under OSX 10.5 or 10.6 yet. 10.5 introduced tabs in Terminal.app and also moved from tty to pty.

Some OSX users prefer iTerm to Terminal but it didn't seem to make any difference re. byobu.

Can you help with this problem?
