Bug Description

:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu precise (development branch)
Release: 12.04

I had a nice resolution of 1440x900 with kernel 3.0.0-15 with nvidia-current at 11.10, now with 3.0.0-17 at 11.10 grafic don't start (black screen at 11.10/3.0.0-17 and 12.04/3.2.0-22).
With mainline-kernel (linux-image-3.4.0-030400rc2-generic) also just a black screen.

Sascha Lutz, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Regarding your Bug Description:
> "I had a nice resolution of 1440x900 with kernel 3.0.0-15 with nvidia-current at 11.10... with actual kernel at 12.04 I can just get a resolution of 1024x768 (nouveau)..."

Please do not stack multiple issues into one report. Hence, this report will only focus on the kernel regression with nvidia-current. If you need a fix for another issue please file another report.

The next step is to perform a kernel bisect to identify the offending commit. Could you please do so following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

For me this is one issue: newer kernel than 3.0.0-15 (doesen't matter if 11.10 or 12.04) and nvidia-current or nouveau is not working!

I am not sure, if I know linux good enough to do https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection !
