Bug Description

In the beta-1 of Precise, the "Cando" touchscreen of my Acer 1825PTZ does not work anymore. After the first few successful "clicks" on the touchscreen, new "clicks" are not registered anymore. I can still move the cursor via the touchscreen, however.
When I switch over to the mouse in this state, it also stops registering clicks after a few of them. The mouse can still move the cursor, just as the touchscreen. Sometimes, the pointer will jump to an entirely different position, when I click a button on the mouse while the touchscreen is bugged out. If I do not use the touchscreen at all, and only the mouse, this behaviour does not seem to trigger.
My touchscreen worked fine with Oneiric, so this a regression.

Different touch screen controller, same bug. Touch worked for me on oneiric but stopped working for precise. I have an ExoPC (Atom Tablet, similar to WeTab). To add some more detail: if you only tap the screen everything works. If you try to drag something (e.g. move window) input freezes. The following forum post may shed some light on this (I'll try to investigate later): http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11633800&postcount=661

I'm not sure if this is helpful. Monitored xinput on device 9 (my touch screen controller, see list above) when triggering bug. Bit difficult to catch, because when input stops working, I needed to switch to console (with DISPLAY=:0 opened with "xhost +") and "xinput test 9" buffers output until "stop lightdm". Maybe the "a[2]=0" visible at end triggers the bug.

btw the workaround mentioned above in post #4 does not work in ubuntu. It seems the reference hid-multitouch is somehow different in ubuntu, and not accessible to root. Is there some other workaround.

I have also tried the daily ubuntu kernel ppa and 3.5.0-999-generic #201206030419 does not fix this problem.

I tried the daily quantal desktop iso from 5jun12 and it's still broken. In fact, it's worse because touching anywhere on the screen causes the cursor to jump to the top left edge.

I also have this bug on my gigabyte t1005 cando touchscreen. A workaround for me is replacing unity with avant-window-navigator.

This bug affects me too, with the "Atmel maXTouch Digitizer" touchscreen on the new Samsung XE700T1C (aka ATIV Smart PC Pro). After a while of touching the screen it gets locked and I'm no longer able to touch anything... the touch events appear to get accumulated and only released when another device clicks.

For example, if I'm using OnBoard (onscreen keyboard) to type into the Dash or a document, and I touch a bunch of keys nothing happens, but as soon as I click with my mouse or wacom pen, all the characters I had previously been touching are suddenly spat out into whatever text box I was in.

ove, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-evdev REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

I'm happy to say that this bug is fixed for me. I'm writing this from Ubuntu Trusty Alpha amd64 20140110 daily build, using keyboard only once - to run OnBoard. Multi(or rather double)touch is working also. Thanks whoever fixed this!
