Bug Description

My system installed before 12.04 wit a non-pae kernel is now instaling normal-headers and pae-headers because lubuntu-desktop has a suggestion on it.

michael@eeebuntu:~$ aptitude why linux-headers-generic-pae
i lubuntu-desktop Empfiehlt linux-headers-generic-pae (suggest)

I dont like to have headers on my system for a kernel i am not using (i know that pae will be the default in 12.04) but for systems which are older installations its a waste of space to install pae-headers (my system has 4gb / )

Maybe there is another way then lubuntu-desktop to install pae-headers

Also please remember, my system is installing pae-headers but not the pae-kernel

I changed the title to reflect the fact that all Precise non-pae min.iso installations (regardless of DE) and upgrades from either Lucid or Oneiric also install the current version of 'linux-headers generic-pae' even though 'non-pae' is in use.

I'm also sticking my neck out and subscribing Stéphane Graber because he has close connections both to Ubuntu QA and the installer-team. Apologies in advance but we probably should have a definitive answer regarding this before Precise Beta 1 iso-testing begins in about 1 week.

Probably also need a package reassignment but I'm not sure what package it should be assigned to. It does effect both Ubuntu and Lubuntu, I haven't yet tested the upgrade path in either Xubuntu or Kubuntu, nor installing those DE's after installing with the non-pae mini.iso.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

(x86 kernels have required PAE for some time, so this bug report no longer applies)
