Just want to report that I have this problem as well on an HP 2740P running 11.10 with kernel 3.2.0-11

It only just recently started to happen (possibly in conjunction with enabling the oneric-proposed sources (however, disabling it and running apt-get update / apt-get upgrade did not revert the problem).

Whatever I can provide to assist, please let me know.

I can say it is quite repeatable that the mouse will not freeze until the first time that I use the 'super' key to launch the Unity search panel. After that the mouse freezes. Opening a terminal and typing:
synclient TouchpadOff=0

Fixes the problem and it does not seem to reoccurr.

Thank you.

Mohamed Alaa, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
