Bug Description

Some time around 10.04, my boot times began to always suffer 10-20 second delays. When I can view the log while loading, a message similar to this one is posted immediately after the delay:

ata4.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen
ata4.00: failed command: IDENTIFY PACKET DEVICE
ata4.00: cmd a1/00:01:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 tag 0 pio 512 in
ata4.00: status: { DRDY }
ata4: hard resetting link
ata4: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300)
ata4.00: configured for PIO4

Applying the fix given at this webpage solved the problem for me: http://paulphilippov.com/articles/how_to_fix_slow_boot_with_ata_errors

It'd great to get this fixed, because my boot times are between 5 and 10 seconds once I apply the above workaround.

Do you have some details about this? Which upstream (systemd/linux/something else?) You mean this is faulty firmware which now has a workaround in the kernel, or similar?
