Bug Description

After a dist-upgrade today on oneiric, i am not able to open a desktop sesion.
After loging in through lightdm, screen changes to console and then goes back to login screen.
I am not able to see any error in system logs.

Using gdm instead lightdm apparently solved the problem.

For the recent security fix LightDM has to drop privileges to write the authority file, but I guess it could be set wrong. Alex. Could you log into a text terminal and check the permissions on ~/.Xauthority. If they're wrong fix them/delete the file then login again and see if this fixes the problem.

Permission were set to root:root
Changing permission corrected the problem.

I'm going to close this. I think lightdm can't do anything sane in this case. Thanks for the bug report!

lightdm could remove the file. It's in an user writable directory.
