Bug Description

The current auto-reveal behaviour for the unity launcher is a bit elusive and tricky until you realize what's going on.

To reproduce, in current natty:

put a window near the left side of the screen, so the launcher moves away
mouse over the right hand side of the ubuntu button in the top left, so that the launcher just starts to appear
when the launcher's most of the way out and you can see the button you want, move down towards it
the launcher jumps away!

what you have to do is move the mouse all the way to the left while keeping it over the ubuntu button, and only then move it down

what (perhaps) should happen: if the launcher has started to come back, but is not yet all the way out, and the mouse moves down staying underneath the ubuntu button, it should stay visible, or perhaps move further out if the mouse moves further left. it should only snap back if the mouse moves back out to the right of the launcher area.

This behaviour is to allow the user to get behind the launcher. The issue here is that it is non-reversible. The correct behaviour is for the launcher to slide back out if the user moves the cursor out of the Launcher area. This resolution is already in Launchpad and will hopefully land for Natty, so I am closing this bug as a dupe.

Woops, the comment above about this issue already having a resolution scheduled and being a dupe is incorrect. Improvements to the launcher reveal functionality is something we will look at in 11.10, however it is too late to start exploring Launcher reveal changes for Natty. Bug status changed to 'won't fix' for natty.

Is this really "won't fix" permanently, as the bug status currently says, or just won't fix for natty. I really think this ought to be fixed eventually; it is not a nice experience at all.

updating based on john's comment: it can be open for ubuntu, but not targeted to natty (and it's not)

@Martin: we have some script syncing the state to get a possible coherence between design and all unity task, please do not revert this.

The new interaction will be tracked in a separate bug I think by ayatana-design.
