Can you confirm whether the kernel images at
http://
for you? It's important to know whether this change represents a
regression for anyone currently able to use the official kernel-image
packages.
Thanks,

Existing 2.4.26 kernel-images on the above machine result in infinite
looping while initializing the qlogicisp driver for the SCSI card.
Bypassing SCSI initialization, the 2.4.26 kernel package will also fail
to correctly initialize the ethernet card using either the tulip or
de4x5 driver: the driver will load, but eth0 is not usable. Under the
patched kernel, both devices work correctly; I'm currently using the
de4x5 driver for the ethernet.

Yes this has already been identified in #241185.

Well if you or someone else can provide a place for me to upload
fixed packages to then I can build one with this as well as the
i387 crash bug fixed.

You'll find the reason in debian/changelog if you search for core_cia.
In any case, the original bug that prompted this is no longer there
so it can be safely reverted.

I've got about 3 distinct types of alphas I can test this out on. The
general method I use for booting etc. actually circumvents the
installation kernels so I've never actually seen it in action before.
I need to take care of the general i386 situation before this and I
should probably recruit helpers for cvs-specific issues at this point.

Version: 2.4.26-2
Severity: grave
The Debian kernel image packages for alpha have been wholly unusable on
a large number of hardware configurations for probably half a year now,
dating back to around 2.4.21. Peter De Schrijver has tracked this
problem down to a broken *Debian-specific* patch in the kernel images.
Please immediately revert the patch to arch/alpha/
the kernel-source package. There is no documentation in the
kernel-patch changelog or README.Debian that explains what problem this
patch was intended to solve, so I can't guarantee that reverting it
wouldn't cause problems on some machines, but I do know that reverting
it corrects the PCI setup problems on at least two different models of
alpha. I will be publishing test packages shortly with this patch
reverted, to get feedback from other alpha users who both were or were
not able to use the kernel-image-2.4.26 packages.
The reverted patch is attached for reference.

Subject: alpha kernel testing
I've got about 3 distinct types of alphas I can test this out on. The
general method I use for booting etc. actually circumvents the
installation kernels so I've never actually seen it in action before.
I need to take care of the general i386 situation before this and I
should probably recruit helpers for cvs-specific issues at this point.

2.4.25-1-generic works fine here for me and I know older Debian
kernel-image packages would not. I don't remember the specific text
spewed by the older kernels off hand, but they were basically unusable.
