My system monitor shows me in the resources tab the cpu constantly going on 100%...
I tried with a kill -9 for the indicator-applet,but nothing....
Then I tried to kill indicator-sound and the cpu went down to a normal percentage...
I beleieve that, for some reason,indicator-sound as a sort of loop or a wrong timeout....

summary: - indicator-appler consuming high percentage of cpu
+ indicator-sound consuming high percentage of cpu
affects: indicator-applet (Ubuntu) → indicator-sound (Ubuntu)

I can confirm this behavior using 0.4.1-0ubuntu1 on maverick.
When pulseaudio is gone/crashed it consumes very high cpu power and leaks memory.

No Conor, pulseaudio is not running on my system....

If pulse is not running then you should uninstall indicator-sound. Currently indicator-sound just caters for systems which run pulse.

The cause of the cpu overload has to do with the pulse-async lib trying to start the pulse binary but it can't find it. Have you moved or changed permissions on /usr/bin/pulseaudio ?

Sorry,
My mistake.
This should be fixed in 0.4.8
