Czech translations in Ukrainian kpackagekit translation

I have already submitted Ukrainian translation from upstream. So the problem is not the lack of Ukrainian translation or its bad quality. The problem is that Lukas (or somebodies scripts) regularly submit Czech translation. Yes, I can detect it and resubmit everytime it happens. But it is not fun. :(

How can Ubuntu Ukrainian Translators prevent developer from submitting wrong translations? Lukas is not the member of Ukrainian team.

I confirm this bug. it's really not even "just for fun".

As you can see "Vyhledání poskytovaných selhalo" is not even a Cyrillic string.

Please stop this.

Please folks, let's try to keep the tone down. I can understand the frustration when translations are changed with no good reason, but let's try to avoid using words such as vandalization before having investigated what's actually happened.

As I can see it, there are onyl 3 ways in which translations can be changed:

1. Translations submitted upstream
2. Packaging bug (translations from another language are pulled from KDE's svn)
3. Translations submitted in Launchpad

From those, we can already discard #3. Looking at Lukas' Launchpad profile at https://launchpad.net/~lukas-kde, we can see that he is not a member of any Launchpad teams, which does not allow him to submit any translations. The Ukranian translators team has a moderated subscription policy, which means that members have to be accepted before being able to submit translations, and only those in the team will be able to do so.

I'll now investigate #1 and #2.

In the meantime, if the Ukranian translations want to fix the translations, here are the strings affected:

You can fix the affected translations manually in Launchpad or by uploading the upstream PO file directly at:

and choosing "Imported translation" (recommended)

Ok, looking at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/kpackagekit/+index and at the upstream tarball at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/kpackagekit/0.5.4-0ubuntu3/+files/kpackagekit_0.5.4.orig.tar.gz, it seems that the 'kpackagekit-0.5.4/po/uk/' folder contains the Czech translation instead of the Ukranian one.

That's what's happening here, so I guess the upstream tarball should be fixed first.

Looking at the upstream translations (http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/l10n-kde4/uk/messages/playground-sysadmin/kpackagekit.po?view=log), it definitely contains Ukrainian strings, and always did so. What went wrong is probably the tarball generation, you might want to talk to KPackageKit authors directly (I don't know where do you fetch your tarballs from).

If Kubuntu will use KPackageKit 0.6.0, this bug can be closed.

I don't think shipping 0.6.0 is an option at this point. 0.6.x is a "binary compatibility un-guaranteed" PackageKit version series. Should be perfectly possible to patch the translations to the proper ones, though.

I cannot upload translation fast enough. Your import translation system is faster. Today were 2 imports from broken package, my 1 import of the right translation was not fast enough. :(

If there will be no Kubuntu user to make valid patch... Well Kubuntu never was high-quality KDE distribution... ;)

Deleted the newly imported Ukrainian which uploaded automatically, approved the translation uploaded by Yuri. Hope this workaround can limit the damage of wrong translation in tarball.

New upload from the package archive. Ukrainian translation is replaced with Czech one again.

Thanks God, the only distribution that affected is Kubuntu and I do not use it. ;)

It would affect anybody still using 0.5.x, the latest API-stable version.

Fixed in maverick.
