Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub

GRUB recently implemented internationalization support [1] and it now can be translated. That version is included in Lucid and needs to create a translation template during the build process, so that it can be uploaded to Launchpad Translations and Ubuntu translators can do their work.

As usual, we recommend to coordinate the translations effort with upstream, and for now translations should be best done there.

FWIW I'm going to leave this for a little while to encourage people to go upstream in these early stages. I'll deal with this by release, though.

Note that grub2 is already translatable at https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/grub2/

However, this is only because the upstream tarball includes a possibly outdated POT file and Launchpad picks it up. The package still needs to create an up-to-date template, so that the latest messages are available in language packs.

Just mentioning it in case anyone was wondering why grub is already translatable in Launchpad.

Actually, I think this is fine for Lucid, and I'm going to take it off the targeted bug list. The template shipped in the source package (actually in the Debian diff, not in the upstream tarball as you state) is fractionally out of date, but the only differences I can see are two rarely-seen error messages:

"drive `%s' already mapped to `%s'"
  "device count exceeds limit"

I plan to get that patch upstream anyway, so to be honest I would rather not introduce build complexity for this. Get in touch with me if you disagree and think I'm missing something.
